View this eventTitle:Business ForumSummary:How do the Business Forum events work and who should attend?

Companies present their strategic issues and ask the audience for feedback on a number of points regarding their future plans. A guest commentator will give his view on the relevant company presentation to help facilitate discussion and debate. The audience (normally comprising a variety of advisers, investors and companies) will then discuss each presentation and give their own feedback on a "round-table" basis. The aim of these events is to help the presenting companies by giving constructive feed-back on their presentations with a view to helping them take their company to the next level. The event will also provide excellent networking opportunities for the audience members and given them a chance to reflect on the key strategic issues that face their own businesses. The events are modelled on the successful initiative at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

View this eventTitle:Business and the Arts – Working for Each OtherSummary:Exploring how the landscape for arts and business has changed – Business Forum is bringing together four professionals working at the cutting edge of how businesses and arts organisations relate to and guage what is different and explore new ways of working. The presentation and the subsequent discussion will go beyond the obvious challenges presented by the recession to consider the new opportunities resulting from the development of digital and communications technologies.

Veemee LLP (“Veemee”) is a new company based in Edinburgh and is involved with the ever expanding possibilities opened up by virtual worlds and in particular proprietary virtual worlds. Proprietary virtual worlds provide a fantastic marketing opportunity to target a captive audience though a variety of different means. In addition to the marketing opportunities for “real world” goods and services there is the creation of virtual works of art. Perhaps now is the time to recognise the creation of virtual spaces and the forums/products that populate them as art forms or at the very least a virtual art gallery. This leads to the notion that such art forms have intrinsic “virtual” as well as real value and should be encompassed by a business employing any strategy which supports the arts to drive business in whatever medium it operates.

Every August, the Edinburgh International Festival (“EIF”) transforms one of the world's most beautiful cities, presenting three exhilarating weeks of the finest creators and performers from the worlds of the arts - for everyone. Edinburgh's six major theatres and concert halls, a few smaller venues and often some unconventional ones too, come alive with the best classical music, theatre, opera, dance and visual art from around the globe. EIF is a curated festival - all artists and companies appear in the Festival at the invitation of the Festival Director. The Festival is responsible for funding all of its activities. As a not-for-profit organ
