Business Mentor and Consultant working with SMEs to help them grow and develop through input of sound business knowledge and funding if required. Jock has invested in a number of businesses over the last few years and is Chairman of 2 of them – Totseat and Verdex.
He set up Equity Gap – a business angel syndicate in August 2010 and it now has approximately 30 members. Born and brought up in the Scottish Borders. Jock attended Edinburgh University, gaining an Honours degree in Chemical Engineering and then gained a Diploma in Malting and Brewing at Heriot Watt University. He worked as a brewer initially with Bass in Burton-on-Trent before moving to Scottish & Newcastle in Edinburgh in 1977. He worked with S&N for almost 30 years in production, operations and logistics role, with 20 of these years as a Director. In 2004 he was appointed a Director of the Freight Transport Association for 3 years. In 2006 Jock left S&N and set up his management consultancy, Millican Associates. Outside work his main interests rugby. He is a Director with the Scottish Rugby Union and 6 Nations Rugby. He has just completed an interim role as Chief Executive of the Scottish Rugby Union for 4 months. In his playing days he played for many clubs across the UK including Leicester, Heriot’s and Newcastle Northern. Jock gained 3 full caps for Scotland in 1973.
